Lakeside Kölsch: A Taste of Kenora’s Waterfront Heritage

There’s a story behind every great beer, and Lakeside Kölsch is no exception. Its name is borrowed from one of Kenora’s earliest neighbourhoods—a place shaped by life on the iconic Lake of the Woods. This region, dotted with cozy beaches, weathered boathouses, and sun-bleached docks, is the kind of lakeside hamlet that has defined northern lake culture for generations.

BEER STYLE: Kölsch; COLOUR: Light straw, brilliant clarity; AROMA: Bread and mild fruit; HEAD: White, little persistence; HOPS: Hersbrucker, Saaz; MOUTHFEEL: Light bodied with medium-high carbonation, smooth; TASTE: Very clean malt flavour with smooth straw notes, light fruity fermentation sweetness; VITAL STATS; ABV: 5% – IBU: 6 – SRM: 3

Kenora’s waterways have always been its foundation. Over the years, they’ve carried everything from raw lumber destined for growing communities to the gentle glide of birch canoes and the chug of wood launches, steamboats, and early outboard motors. The lake tells a story of tradition, craftsmanship, and connection to nature—and Lakeside Kölsch captures that spirit in every sip.

Brewed using traditional old-world techniques, this Kölsch boasts the crisp, clean character typically found in lagers while remaining unmistakably an ale. It’s delicate and subtle, offering just the right balance of malt sweetness and a soft fruitiness on the nose. The result is a refreshing, easy-drinking beer that feels right at home on a dock at sunset.

Whether you’re exploring Kenora’s history, paddling through its storied channels, or simply relaxing lakeside, this beer is brewed to complement the moment. Lakeside Kölsch isn’t just a drink—it’s a tribute to the heritage of Lake of the Woods and the people who have shaped its shores.
