Yep… we spoofed Hinterland Who’s Who… a Canadian series of 60-second public service announcements profiling Canadian animals, produced by Environment Canada Wildlife Service and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) in the 1960s and 70s. Of course, ours is all about our beer… in its natural habitat. And yes, we capture the rare mating ritual of a Blonde Ale and an IPA.

The 1980’s Lake of the Woods Crime Drama “Lake of the Woods Vice” lost pilot episode… found jammed in an old VHS player in the basement at the brewery, and digitized from the master tape for your viewing pleasure. The idea of healthy rows of hops growing in amongst the granite outcrops of Northern Ontario is a vision Lake of the Woods Brewing Company is excited to get behind. Thanks to the University of Guelph Agriculture program, and the interest of the Rainy River Future Development Corporation, research is being conducted on the growing conditions and possibilities for hops and other crops in this region. Camp Forgotten Lake’s horrific tales of Blueberry Boy doesn’t deter counselors from setting up camp for the upcoming season. Superstitious locals warn against it, but the group pay little heed to the old-timers, except for the seemingly clairvoyant Annie. Then, as the night unfolds, they find themselves stalked by the brutal killer Blueberry Boy. As they’re attacked, the counselors struggle to stay alive against their merciless opponent until a sudden turn of events and a cold beer change the tide.

It’s a real high five to humanity when we give waste another round of purpose. Fuelling vehicles with biodiesel, heating buildings with compost…. it’s smart, and it feels good. Going to Paul’s 300-acre farm and seeing the healthy cows feasting on spent grain from Lake of the Woods Brewing Company is entirely an example of a brewery taking sustainable action. I’d never been to a farm in Northern Ontario.
